Christ The Redeemer School Division is working on coming up with a plan in regards to crowding issues and boundary changes.

Currently Ecole Good Shepard School is feeling the pinch for space and reached it's capacity for students with 962 enrolled, including the increase of 60 students or 6.5% from this year.
The board is looking at how this can be changed by incorporating the new Davisburg school to relieve some of the pressure.

Wayne Lorenz, Principal at Good Shepard School, says he's looking forward to some much needed relief.

"We have a growing community, a growing population within our school, and not enough space," he says. "With a new school coming on line we're hoping families will have an opportunity to go Davisburg to the new school site and give us a little bit more room to breath, and obviously we're going to have new people in our community too so we're going to need new space for them."

According to the division the Davisburg school will remove about 125 students from Good Shepherd and as it currently stands Good Shepard will still be 103% full if the Kindergartens stay at Holy Trinity and 110% full if they come back without factoring in growth.

Katelyn Nickel, a Good Shepard parent, says the school board needs to keep looking towards the future.

"We do know that Okotoks is growing significantly so I think if they continue to work with the town and we continue to get parent involvement it would be beneficial to them in the long run because Okotoks has boomed in the last 10 years so I think it's important to not just plan for now but plan ahead."

CTR says building another school in town is unlikely as they won't get another school until Davisburg is full.

Potential boundary change ideas include:

"-Move all new Drake Landing families to St. Mary’s School. Families with one or more child currently at École Good Shepherd may choose to remain.

-Move all new Mountainview and Sandstone families to Davisburg. Families with one or more child currently at École Good Shepherd may choose to remain.

-Leave Kindergarten at Holy Trinity Academy for one more year. Review the decision in June 2016.

-No longer allow English-track siblings of new out of boundary French Immersion students to attend Good Shepherd.

-Allow Okotoks families to transport children to Davisburg or St. Mary’s if space and program are available

-Create an appeal process. February 26, 2016"

The school board will now consider the proposal from senior administration and use the feedback gathered from families to help make a final decision.
