Just as the City of Chestermere was making headway with the clean-up from Sunday's overland flooding... another flood hit Tuesday afternoon.

Not unlike Sunday, the flooding occurred after a sudden downpour hit the city.

Mayor Patricia Matthews says while it wasn't as powerful as Sunday's storm, it still did its share of damage.

"No, nowhere near as bad as Sunday," she says. "But, unfortunately this one carried hail with it, which clogged a few storm receptors up as it went along. Add that to the saturation of the ground already, and it makes for a not great situation."

With over 300 homes damaged after Sunday's flood, there's no word yet on how many homes were hit, or re-hit by Tuesday's flood.

Matthews says the City will be providing assistance for those homeowners who've experienced any flooding.

"We've offered free inspections for anyone who wants to have their basement checked out," she says. "We'll be able to provide feedback about whether there needs to be further structural reviews done, or health reviews done if there looks to be mould, and what needs to be done from there."

Matthews says the City has also reached out to the Province for assistance and to provide updates, which was done before the second flood hit.

"So, we're making sure their offices are updated," she says. "Our Director of Disaster Services and our Fire Chief (Steve Bagley) has been in contact with the Province to start the process of getting that disaster recovery financing in place."

Matthews says the City owes a big thank you to all the volunteers that have helped out so far, and they'll likely need more after Tuesday's flooding.

If your home has been flooded, the City recommends following these steps:

After Flooding:

·        Call your insurance company to report damaged property.

·   Take pictures of damaged property during/after flooding for insurance purposes

·   If you are concerned about your insurance coverage, the City is applying to the Provincial Government for flooding assistance for those affected. It may take some time to hear back about from the Provincial Government but the City will post any information we receive on our website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts once we hear anything.

·        CUI will be placing bins around the City for discarding damaged items. Visit www.cuinc.ca for locations.

·        The City will be offering one FREE basement inspection per affected home for electrical, gas/plumbing, and building to anyone that needs it. Call them at 403-207-7075 to book an inspection. Homeowners may need to call other professionals for different types of inspections.

·        Ensure power, gas, and water supplies/systems are checked by a professional before further use.

If you require immediate assistance, call 911. Please continue to stay out of the flood waters.
