High River Mounties are warning the public to be on guard for anyone coming to your house posing as someone working for a security firm.

Wednesday night police received a complaint from a home owner in Blackie of a man claiming to be a security company representative.

High River RCMP Sergeant Brent Hawker says the home owner became suspicious quickly and phoned police.

"The male had an identifying logo on his shirt, however he couldn't produce any badge, or other identification. This made the home owner suspicious. They called the police and when members arrived they were able to confirm with the company that this male was not an employee."

Hawker says the man had fled by the time police got to the scene.

He says legitimate security system installers and sales people, as well as pretty much anyone in that line of work will always have plenty of identification, and won't hesitate to show it to you if asked.

Hawker says if you don't feel comfortable with the person at your door, you are under no obligation to invite them into your home.
