Motorists who use Centre Street in High River shouldn't be too impacted by a major construction project that's now underway.

The Lineham Canal Bridge is going to be replaced this fall and that means sections of Centre Street will also be upgraded and the alignment of the road improved.

Phase one, which will be started this year, includes installation of a new bridge and improved alignment of the road.

Most of the work should be done by early December, weather permitting.

Phase two, set for next year involves removing the old bridge and some landscaping work.

The Lineham bridge has to be removed because it's coming to the end of its life span.

The majority of the work will happen on the west side of Centre Street to limit impacts on traffic.

The existing road north of the bridge and bridge itself will remain in place until the new sections are open to traffic.
