With the Canada Day long weekend here, the High River Fire Department is again reminding those using the river to do so safely.

Fire Prevention Officer, Clayton Rutberg, says jumping off the Centre Street Bridge into the water, is never a good idea, particularly when you can't see what's under the surface.

"You never know what's in the water. There's a of stuff floating down the river right now, larger pieces of trees, stuff like that. You never know what you're jumping into. And we always want to remind people that if you are out enjoying the river, just make sure you're using a life jacket as well."

He says the same goes if you're tubing or rafting the river this Summer, always wear a life jacket.
