Cannabis is set to become legal sometime this year and that leaves many questioning the drugs safety.

Newleaf Cannabis CAO, Angus Taylor, says buying cannabis legally will be much safer than buying it on the street.

"So, every batch of cannabis that grown in those facilities is sent to a scientific lab. The lab test for how potent the cannabinoids are that are in it and also if there have been pesticides or heavy metals exposed to the product."

While there has yet to be an official date for the new law, the Senate did vote to pass legalization of recreational pot, which sends it back to the House of Commons for further debate on recommended changes made to the legislation by the Senate.
