Anyone searching for a station to get bulk water can no longer get it in downtown Nanton.

The station has been closed permanently.

It's been in operation since 1960, and before that it was a water plant for the Town, and is used by agriculture and commercial business that require water to fill trucks or tanks.

Nanton Mayor Jennifer Handley says they need to do some research as to what their next steps are.

"If was definitely determined that there were major issues happening at the bulk water centre," said Handley. "They needed to close it."

She adds maybe in the future they can get in there and do a little bit more research to determine if it is a service the Town wants to offer.

"Maybe someday they will be able to get in there and do a little bit of research and see what the true costs are of that station."

One of the major issues of the old water plant was a lack of plumbing, that could result in a back flow of water into the Towns water system.

The mechanical system that metres the water no longer worked.

The cost to fix both issues came to $15,000 and the revenue for the station last year was $3,342.

Council heard that management would like to research moving the station to another location and investigate what kind of revenues it could make along with the possibility of doing a twin station where tourists and residents could access a sani dump and a fresh water supply.
