United Conservative leadership hopeful Brian Jean says he wants to get Albertans back to work and get rid of the carbon tax.

He says the UPC would cut $2.6 billion in spending by cutting the number of managers in government and in Alberta Health Services.

"What we need to see is a better public service, a more efficient public service and we can see that in time," Jean says."We know that right now we have one manager for every five employees in Alberta Health Services, we have over 100,000 employees, it's the third largest employer in Canada and we're only about 11 per cent of the population.

We know that we cost a lot more for health services than other jurisdictions, in particular B.C. and Saskatchewan and they get better results. We know we can find savings but we don't want to do it by slashing and cutting."

Jean says the small business tax would be cut from 2 percent to 1 percent and business taxes would go from 12 percent to 10 percent over two years.

"The deficit, projected to be $7 billion in 2019 by the NDP, we think it'll take about three more years to get that in control and turn it around."

He also plans to repeal the provincial carbon tax and challenge the federal carbon tax in court.
