A local man has big plans to break six Guinness World Records all to raise awareness for a 12 year old friend suffering from Mitochondrial disease.

Runner, Dave Proctor is looking to break records for most kilometers run over 12 hours and 24 hours after that.

"On May 27 and 28 at the Calgary Marathon Race Expo myself and twenty five other runners are going to be running on treadmills in attempts to break six Guinness Records within 24 hours."

He says a friend, Ariel Fitzgerald decided to jump in by taking on the record for the fastest 50 and 100 kilometers on a treadmill.

Proctor says on top of that, two teams one of a dozen men and the other a dozen women will try to beat records for most kilometers on a treadmill in 24 hours.

The Mito Run Team are ready to break Guinness World Records.

Proctor of Black Diamond says he's hoping to bring awareness to Mitochondrial Disease.

"The 24 hour Guinness World Record that I want to break is  set at 257.88 km which is just over six marathons back to back to back all throughout the day."

He says it's all for a good cause as friends of his have a young son who suffers from the disease.

"Evan Penny is now twelve years old and he's in the ICU currently at the Children's Hospital in Calgary. He says the boys parents told him there is no organization in Canada that raises funds or awareness for Mitochondrial Disease so they went ahead and started Mito Canada.
