Despite a flood the day before, Canadian Blood Services is ecstatic about how many people still made it out to the blood donor clinic in Chestermere on Monday.

Director of Donor Relations, Susan Matsumoto, says they can't say enough about the donors on Monday.

"It was actually a fantastic turnout," she says. "We collected 99 per cent of our target, which was 76 units of blood, and there were 88 individuals who attended the clinic."

Matsumoto says the organization has a special message for all those who found a way to donate.

"In view of the challenges the members of the community were facing at the time, we really want to thank those residents for being so generous, and especially thoughtful at a challenging time for them," she says.

Matsumoto says the status of the clinic was up in the air after the flood hit on Sunday, but they decided to go ahead with it anyways.

"The decision was sort of made that day (Monday) to see if it was possible to hold the clinic, so that the venue was fine," she says. "It was, so we determined we'd proceed with holding the clinic."

The next blood donor clinic in Chestermere is Sept. 14.

The next donor clinic in the Foothills is July 21 at Holy Trinity Academy in Okotoks from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
