The Foothills School Division was busy fixing things over the summer holidays and one of the big jobs was replacing the sewer pipes at Blackie School.

Assistant Superintendent of Corporate Services Drew Chipman says they hope that helps with the smell and breakdowns.

"Blackie for a number of years has had an issue with their sewer pipes," said Chipman. "They are very old, 50 or 60 years old cast iron pipes that have been failing over time. So this year we spent quite a bit of time and money to make sure that was taken care of."

There was some asbestos that had to be taken care of with the proper regulations in place.

'We hope that, that will certainly alleviate that concern out there. From a smell perspective and making sure that we don't break down and have plug-ins like we did before."

Chipman added it is a significant repair that you don't see the results from because it is all underground but it will certainly help the school.
