After a presentation by Axia at the last Council meeting, the Town of Black Diamond is further looking into bringing in fibre-optic Internet.

Mayor Sharlene Brown says improved internet service could do wonders for the Town.

"I think if we bring a higher level of fiber-optics into the community, with a higher level of service, that increases our economic development opportunities," she says. "It also increases the amount of working at-home type of activities that would could see flourish within our community."

While the situation would be slightly different, Brown says the Town can look to Olds to see just how much of an impact better internet service can have.

"If you look and use Olds as an example, you're increasing economic development, you're increasing your capacity for life-long learning activities," she says. "There's all sorts of avenues it could take us."

Brown says talks will continue with Axia, but it won't be the only avenue they explore.

"I'm very much looking forward to continuing the conversation and seeing what other kind of technological services are out there to increase the speed and capacity of our internet servicing."

Brown says they'll be actively pursuing the idea of better internet service, but there's no timeline for a decision at this point.
