Black Diamond is joining Okotoks in the Municipal Recycling Facility business study.

The project will look at bringing a Municipal Recycling Facility to the Foothills landfill.

Black Diamond Mayor Sharlene Brown says there is not a lot of room left in Alberta for traditional landfills.

"We have a certain amount of recycling that needs to be addressed," Brown says.

The study will look at how the MRF can help the communities taking part.

Brown says that the MRF would take out individual recycling facilities like the one Black Diamond shares with Turner Valley.

"This would potentially find a new regional system that would find those efficiencies."

Brown says that by the year 2020 there is a recommended amount of waste and recycling towns should be doing.

"Our garbage intake at landfills should be at 20% and our recycled materials will go up to 80%, which was a guideline set in place for the whole province."
