A High River man learned the hard way not to run from the cops on a bicycle in the winter.

Gary James Warnica was arrested Sunday, February 16, by High River RCMP on a couple of charges each of obstruction and resisting a peace officer.

It started when a High River Mountie saw him riding his bike unsafely across 12th Avenue S.E.

He stopped him to talk about his unsafe riding habits and after he was given a false name, recognized Warnica was wanted on warrants by both High River RCMP and Medicine Hat Police.

Warnica tried to get away on his bike, but wiped out on a patch of ice, before making a run for it.

He was tracked down in short order hiding between some nearby homes thanks to a tip from a resident.

He's been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court this week and Medicine Hat court next month.
