A couple of local candidates for the UCP nominations in both the Livingstone-Macleod and Highwood Ridings have received an endorsement from our Federal MP.

John Barlow has come out in support of Roger Reid in Livingstone-Macleod saying Reid's business background will take him a long way.

"You know I think Roger brings great business acumen as a small business owner. His family has deep roots in that Livingstone-Macleod riding. He has a great community family, so I think he'll bring a very strong perspective and a good voice for Livingstone-Macleod."

In the Highwood Riding, Barlow is supporting former Okotoks Town Councillor, Carrie Fischer, who's running against the incumbent Wayne Anderson, along with Former Alberta Conservative Party Association President R.J. Sigurdson and local businessman, Dean Leask.

Carrie Fischer will take another stab at provincial politics as she's running against incumbent Wayne Anderson for the UCP Nomination in Highwood. Fischer beat out former Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith for the PC Nomination in Highwood back in 2015, but lost to Anderson in the election that year.

"Wayne's done a good job. And I've know Dean Leask for decades and R.J., I don't know as well. It's going to be a good race, but you know, Carrie, I've known for almost 10 years. I don't know anybody who works as hard as she does, or is as passionate as she is. And is as knowledgeable about the issues Highwood is facing."

UCP Party members will vote this Fall on who will run for their party in next Spring's provincial election.
