The second Foothills Ride to Horizon is coming up on July 30. Foothills MP John Barlow says the funds raised support a renovation project for Camp Horizon, which provides children with disabilities and medical conditions to enjoy a true summer camp experience.

"The ride was started last year as a fundraiser for Easter Seals Camp Horizon. They initiated a $10 million massive renovation project to the camp so we just wanted to try and do our little part to help with that renovation project."

He says over 1500 people come from all over Alberta and western Canada to use the camp each year and it's a highlight for the campers.

"Kids who have disabilities and face obstacles in their every day lives, when they come to Camp Horizon it's a chance for them to just be a kid, a regular kid for a week. From speaking to some of the campers last year and in years past, it has such a profound impact on them and it just becomes something that they are passionate about and they look forward to every year."

Barlow says the ride is ends with a tour of the camp.

"It's about 100 kilometres. It's a chance to ride along Highway 22 through some of the most beautiful country in Alberta. At the end of the ride we'll have an opportunity to tour Camp Horizon with some the representatives from Easter Seals as well as some of the campers, and I know those who participated in the ride last year really enjoyed that part of it. It just really brought it home why we were doing that ride."
