It'll be interesting to see how the new Justin Trudeau government treats the opposition in the House of Commons when it reconvenes for the first time since the election.

Foothills MP John Barlow says he's looking forward to what the session brings, not just with the situation in Syria but other issues as well.

"we have some local files that we need to address and I'm looking forward to having a chance to address some of these issues with the new ministers, and also meeting some of my new colleagues," Barlow says. "We had a chance to get together last week in Ottawa and we have some great new members of parliament and after selecting our new interim leader there's some fantastic energy there and I really think we have the potential to be one of the strongest oppositions in Canadian parliamentary history and I'm looking forward to being a part of that."

Barlow says he was disappointed with the response to the U.S. denial of the Keystone XL pipeline, saying the government should have done a better job of sticking up for Alberta's oil industry.

Barlow says the oil industry is important not just for Alberta but for Canada as a whole and that's something that needs to be championed.

He also wants to make sure the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal moves forward because of the positive things it can do for the local area's agricultural producers.

Parliament resumes December 2.
