The Senate continues to debate Bill C-69, which would force provinces without a carbon tax to have one and severely limit growth in the oil industry.

Foothills MP John Barlow says he's hoping the government, even if the bill is passed, won't have time to really put the Bill into effect before next Fall's federal election.

"Our hope is if they don't agree to abandon this no pipeline bill and carbon tax that they won't have enough time to really get it up and running get the infrastructure in place before the next election. And when we win next fall, we've committed to repealing the carbon tax and repealing Bill C-69."

Barlow says if passed it would be almost impossible to build any sort of pipeline or large scale energy producing facility in Canada.
