Like the rest of us, Foothills MP John Barlow is shocked and outraged over the tragic events this past weekend in Virginia.

He says he respects every one's right to their opinion, but there are limits.

"Once it crosses that line from violence and hatred and bigotry and racism to that level, I think we've definitely crossed the line and it's extremely unfortunate that people feel that the way to express their message is through violence and that kind of animosity."

Barlow says at a basic level very few people are willing to discuss ideas anymore.

"When people are sharing their opinions is either "it's my way or you're wrong!" There's no debate or discussions or conversations or even "agree to disagree." Everything is so polarized it's either black or white. There's no grey anymore."

He says while many in his riding hold strong opinions on a variety of topics, he's never experienced the kind of racist rhetoric that came out of this weekend's clashes between white supremacists and anti-racist protestors.
