If you're an artist, you may want to enter in the 2016 Banner Project. The High River Library is excited to partner with the Art and Culture Advisory Committee and the High River Art Society to bring some more beauty to our town.

Program Coordinator with the library Joyce Brown says the first step is to create a piece of art that can be photographed.

"They can create a piece of art, anything that taking a picture of it would look good being produced on a banner. So you can do pottery, you can do metal work, you can do woodworking, you can do fabric art. Basically, it doesn't have to be just the traditional paintings and that kind of thing."

She says each person can submit up to two photographs of the art to the library.

"You then submit photographs of your piece. I have the write up all in a brochure, along with and application form, and everybody can submit up to two pieces of art work. That has to be in by June first, and then we will go through all the artwork that has been chosen. We will jury in 40 pieces."

Brown says the pictures chosen will be hung as banners around town.

"They will go up in the fall for a couple of months to celebrate Alberta Culture Days and the arts. Prior to that we are going to allow people to purchase the banners. So after they've been hanging for two years, then they'll go to the owners and we'll have new ones made."

Brown says the library looks forward to entries from a variety of artists, including immigrants and children. To find out more, you can call the High River Library at 403-652-2917 or check out their website at http://highriverlibrary.ca/.
