Sometimes beauty really can be deceiving.

Some plants in the Foothills that look like lovely flowers, are really plant and garden predators looking to take over your yards.

"Certainly some gardeners think that things like common tansy, creeping bell flower and Himalayan Balsam are beautiful plants and they are, but they are also noxious and the Himalayan Balsam is prohibited." Says Tannas Webb, Parts Supervisor for the Town of High River.

With the gardening season well under way, it is the perfect time to watch out for and get rid of some of those plants that are actually noxious or prohibited noxious weeds.

The Weed Control Act of Alberta says, prohibited noxious weeds need to be destroyed and noxious weeds need to be controlled.

Webb says, "they are identified because they are a threat to our environment, economy and society."

The best way to control them is to prevent them from taking hold by making sure you hand pull them and if there are large amounts, Webb advises you should contact a professional to control the situation.

As Webb is the weed inspector for the town of High River, people are encouraged to call her about weed identification.

Webb says, "I can come and inspect and make sure they don't have something they shouldn't."
