Okotoks Town Council is going back to the drawing board when it comes to the twinning of Pason Centennial Arena.

After a couple of initial designs were presented, the town needed to address the accommodation for more parking for the eventual arena and making sure there is enough ice for everyone in the community.

With Okotoks Minor Hockey growing rapidly, Mayor Bill Robertson says the further research into the arena needs to meet everybody's needs.

"We know that we need ice surfaces," he says. "We're in the process of planning out a second arena, and there was going to be a skating surface there also, we have instructed administration to go away and see if we can't get a much larger leisure skating surface."

The current layouts for the new arena has two different options, each with it's own pros and cons but Robertson wants to make the most of what the town can do with the facility.

"We're looking at what options we have on that site," he says. "Knowing that it's suggested that there isn't room for a 3rd hockey rink at that site because there would be no room for the accommodating dressing rooms and so on that would be required to go along with that."

Robertson says it isn't just about making sure the ice surfaces suffice for hockey but for the entire town to enjoy.

"Can we get a larger leisure skating surface and perhaps forego some of the meeting rooms, we're going to investigate that whatever we get we want to get the best bang for the buck."
