It's a good time to thank bus drivers for all they do, as part of "Bus Driver's Appreciation Week."

The Foothills School Division is one of the few in the Province who employ their own bus drivers, and without them many students would have difficulty getting to school.

Katherine Girard has been driving with the division for 14 years, and she wouldn't change jobs for the world.

"It's the kids really, I love the kids, they have all their own little personalities." she says. "It's a real joy everyday to work with them, everyday presents a new day, and usually they're pretty good with lots of smiles."

Girard explains she always tries to give students the best start to their day possible.

"I always like to say good morning or good afternoon to them, and I always smile, and I find that when you smile at them you usually get one back. I think that when your'e happy and you present positively to the children, it sets the tone for their day."

Grade 10 student at Foothills Composite High School Riley Gough has been riding route 79 for six years now, he says seeing a familiar face every morning is a great experience.

"High school is very stressful for everyone everyday, so always knowing that your bus driver is there is always great to know." he says. "She's always really in touch with everyone."
