The Banff RCMP are asking for public assistance in locating a missing artifact, in a bizarre case.

Last weekend on Saturday July 28, Mounties were informed of a missing 1900's era coal miners lamp, that vanished from a historical site at Lower Bankhead in Banff National Park, near Lake Minnewanka.

The "Wolf Safety Lamp" was placed on the ground near the lamp house, which serves as a historical location as part of the Parks Canada guided tour.

The release states that the artifact is a part of the Bankheads people's history, and was on loan from the great-grandaughter of a local miner.

Banff RCMP Sergeant Philip Viers says the lamps main value is in the hearts of those who are connected to its history.

"The value of the lamp is not monetary, rather it is sentimental and historical. We are making a public plea and ask whoever removed the lamp to do the right thing by returning it to any RCMP detachment."

Any tips or information can be forwarded to the Banff Mounties at 403-763-6600.
