Highwood's MLA is happy to see the Notley government taking action on the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council.

Wayne Anderson says it was becoming clear to everyone the organization needed to change.

"Quite frankly I thought it was way overdue, AMVIC obviously was in a difficult situation, there were a considerable number of consumer complaints over the last several years and it focused mostly around the Treads auto dealer," he says. "It became quite apparent that this organization wasn't meeting the needs of consumers and since then I think what the government's done is the right thing, doing the review study on AMVIC and then taking the action with the current executive team."

He says the government and the board needs to look at providing compensation to those who've lost money through the practices of a few bad dealers.

"I'm not sure what they did with the money but now that it's been exposed what they've done, I'm hoping that the new board, or the interim board, with the minister's approval will start looking at compensating some of those people," Anderson says.

AMVIC had put together $4 million dollars for compensation but had paid out only about $2,000 last year.
