With the Town of High River's Disaster Preparedness Month right around the corner, the Town, along with first responders and other municipalities are gearing up for it.

High River's Director of Emergency Management Carly Benson will gather everyone at the High River Fire Hall over the next few days to go over possible scenarios and work out how they'd respond.

"There's a couple of practical exercises, so it's not 'in the field' but it talking through some of the responses, so I think two of the scenarios for our first meeting will be a train derailment, the other is a tornado. So, just what would we do 'if' and making sure everybody understands their roles."

The Town will also be holding a couple of disaster preparedness workshops in May.

On May 28 they'll have one specifically aimed at residents of High River's growing Filipino community.

And then on May 29, they'll host another aimed at people who live in the southwest neighbourhoods of Downtown, the Old Rodeo Grounds and McLaughlin Meadows.
