AltaLink has come forward in a big way to help with farm and ranch safety.

President and CEO Scott Thon says they provided a $1.5-million gift for the establishment of the new AltaLink Hall in the Western Events Centre on the Calgary Stampede grounds for an annual Farm Safety Day.

"Rural youth programming is a very big focus for us here at AltaLink and clearly farm safety is big for us," he says. "Safety is big in AltaLink and we really saw a good fit for working with the Stampede."

Thon says their support also aligns with their long-standing partnership with Alberta 4-H.

"We've always had a focus on investing in the communities in which we serve, we've also just renewed our agreement with 4-H Alberta, they've been a great partner for us, we've extended that now into 2019 and today's announcement with the Calgary Stampede has a real focus on rural youth and farm safety," he says.

The first Farm Safety Day will be held in the AltaLink Hall Thurs. March 24, 2016 for kids in grades six to nine. Thon says the company is really looking forward to providing top-notch safety awareness training for kids and their families across Alberta.

Details on sign-up still have to be worked out.
