Yet another quiet week for the Okotoks Fire Department.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says for the week of Aug. 17 to 23, the department responded to 13 different calls.

"Very quiet week, which is a good thing for us and the community," he says. "We only responded to one fire this week, we had one investigation, we did six medical responses, we had three alarms system activations and two motor vehicles collisions we attended."

For the past few weeks the department has had their work cut out for them, but Thevenot says for July and August he's not surprised.

"July and August are typically slower months for grass fires, because it has greened up so much usually in the spring is when we get a lot of grass fires," he says. "This has been a typical year, summers it has been slow the last three weeks but the fall brings other areas that we can get busy in as well, different types of weather changes."

The number of total calls the department has received is still higher than at this rate last year but Thevenot has since seen a small decline from the past two months.

"We were up at a 107, and right now I did the math, we're at 93 ahead of last year so we were at 107 now we are at 93 so we're still around that 100 mark."

The fire department has responded to 701 different call this year.
