U.S. President Barak Obama has signed a bill that will mean the repeal of Country Of Origin Labelling, or COOL legislation.

The House and Senate voted to approve an omnibus bill Friday that included dropping the legislation.

Alberta's Agriculture Minister Oneil Carlier says Canada's taken it to the World Trade Organization four times and won every time.

"The Americans have stalled now for about four years in having this legislation repealed on their side so I'm really looking forward to having this repeal and knowing that this is good news and it will help protect Alberta families and Alberta jobs," the Minister says.

He says COOL legislation didn't even have widespread support among the people it was supposed to be helping.

"Especially the southern states they wanted this repealed as well, so I'm somewhat concerned it took so long but we're on the right steps now so I'm looking forward to that," he says.

The chairman of the Alberta Beef Producers, Bob Lowe of Nanton, says the return to fair mutual trade is good for producers on both sides of the border.
