A wolf in Banff has been euthanized after showing bold and increasingly aggressive behavior in campsites.

"A female yearling wolf that's part of the Bow Valley Pack displayed some very bold and aggressive behaviors in searching for food. It was going from campsite to campsite, through fire pits and through garbage."

Visitor Experience Manager with Banff National Park, Greg Danchuk, says the wolf became too conditioned to human food despite officer's efforts to deter her.

Danchuk adds that the wolf was watched for several days in hopes of scaring her off before the decision to euthanize her was official.

He says officers were unable to adversely condition the wolf.

"It's behavior continued to increase in her boldness towards wherever people were in the campground and wherever her potential food sources were."

Danchuk says the biggest contributing factor that led to this wolf's aggression and boldness was due to campers not picking up after themselves.

Campers are being reminded to clean up after themselves and those who fail to do so can be charged up to $25,000.
