Nomination day for anyone thinking about running for trustee at the Foothills School Division is Sept. 18th, the same deadline for local municipal elections.

Superintendent John Bailey says there are a few things he likes to see in candidates.

"From my perspective as superintendent we want people who absolutely are interested in education," said Bailey. "They are interested in helping students and they are open minded, they have ideas but they are open minded and they are willing to consider information and make decisions."

And it takes a commitment to work about six to seven days a month, starting with the  prep work for the twice a month school board meetings.

Trustees are also expected to attend local school council meetings and special events, like plays and concerts, put on by the school.

And there are a couple of meetings a year for conferences and meetings with the provincial school board.

The exciting news is the new seat that is available in Okotoks which will help to share the workload.

"Okotoks is growing, that is our largest centre. It is pretty busy so it was time, our board felt it was time to add another trustee I think that was absolutely the right move to make. That will help in that centre as well."

Nominations must be filed on Sept. 18 between 10 and noon at the Foothills School Division office in High River.
