Okotoks Town Council approved the 2016 Budget at Mondays Town Council meeting.

The budget shows an increase to the average household’s taxes by $35.

Okotoks town councilor Tanya Thorn says that she is very happy with the budget.

“We have a really low tax rate for our citizens in these economic times, along with maintaining our service levels and enhancing our safety by adding the additional RCMP.” Thorn says.

The budget allows the town to hire three more RCMP officers that will start around the beginning of July.

Thorn says the budget also will allow for infrastructure updates around the town.

“Maintaining our infrastructure through regular maintenance and increase its longevity. It is great to build it but if you never keep up with it, it will wear down faster.”

Servicing will also be done on the 40 acres done on the Waterburn quarters.

This will allow for a K to 9 school for the Foothills School Division.

Thorn says that they will also be making add on’s to the water park.

“Along with adding more water features we will also be adding washrooms up there which will be good for the young families.”
