Alberta Open Farm Days is an initiative that brings farmers and potential customers from the big city and rural areas together.

Farms across the province will open their doors and gates to the public throughout Alberta on August 20 & 21.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Oneil Carlier says  it's a chance to tour around the province.

"It's going to be the fourth edition of the event. I was able to take part last year and it was a great. It's 72 different farms right across the province providing an opportunity for folks to enjoy rural Alberta."

Some of Alberta’s talented Chefs will be hosting a series of farm to table culinary events that will be held around the province using Alberta farm products.

Minister Carlier says people want to know what they're eating and where it comes from.

"It's a real culture of food right now, everyone wants to be a Foodie. Everyone is interested in where their food comes from, how it's grown and to be able to eat it at its freshest. This is a great learning experience as well as a lot of fun."

He says there's something for every taste and it's an excellent opportunity to get out with the family.

The event is a backstage pass to meet the Farmer and taste foods direct from the producer.

Carlier says Farmers and Ranchers are happy to show people around and show off their products.

"Farmers and Ranchers are proud of their products, their lifestyle and what they're doing in agriculture. It's growing every year, there were 72 Host farms last year and we expect more people interested this year."

He says Open Farm Days is still looking for Host farms who are interested in opening their gates but registration forms have to be completed and submitted by May 31, 2016.
