The Town of High River retained Clifton Associates in August to perform per-demolition and risk assessment tests on the water tower and the results weren't good.

Jim Duckworth Engineering Coordinator presented the update requested $400,000 for the demolition of the water tower and remediation of the park and he says they're confident the numbers are right.

"We trust the numbers that have been provided to us by the consultant based on their experience on these types of projects."

Under the Alberta Occupational Health and safety Act many samples taken exceeded regulations.

He says that amount covers a lot.

"The assessment of materials, the consultants fees, sampling and environmental monitoring during the process itself because the contractor has to be sure that he's safe as well."

Regulations state that all chemical and biological substances must be recycled, packaged and transported properly.

Duckworth says the work will happen in two phases.

"The first phase we hope to have that completed by February 2017 and then whatever disturbance was done to the ground will be done in the spring when the ground can be worked."

The total bill is now coming in at an estimated $750,000.
