The 100 Women Who Care, Foothills, is growing its numbers and that means more money to hand out.

The group's founder, Karen Love was able to give a handful of cheques to Food For Thought which provides young students healthy meals at school.

"I'm just so glad that we started this and every time, whether it's first, second, third, or fourth that I hand over those cheques, it makes me feel proud of the work that we've done here in the foothills," Love says.

She says the extent of the work the group, Food For Thought does is an eye opener for her and she hopes their donation shines a light on the group.

"I think it probably shocks a lot of people that there are hungry kids coming to school and there's no food and there's no food at home, there's no food in the school and they've no money to buy food," she says. "And it's such an amazing program and only through 100 Women did I find out it actually exists in the foothills area and so I think that's a benefit and now everybody else gets to hear what this program's all about."

Suvi Tuulia Lorenz with Food For Thought says that kind of money makes a real difference to their work.

"We will be able to make sure that these lunches are complete, we know we will last a little bit longer, money is always an issue for us, so it just makes a huge difference for our program and the way we are running it," she says.

The 100 Women Who Care gave Food For Thought $4,200 for the program and will meet again the first Thursday in November at the Crystal Ridge Golf Club in Okotoks.
