The Province has put the brakes on plans to get out and play golf this Spring.

Alberta's health authorities say golf is a "non-essential" business and as such, courses can't open to the public until deemed safe to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Golf's governing bodies, the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association, Alberta Golf, National Golf Course Owners Association and Alberta Golf Superintendents Association are trying to make their case to the Province that they can open up and provide a valuable service, while still being able to maintain social distancing rules.

They say for many who've been shut in, getting outside for some exercise, would be a welcome break.

They also say delays in getting the season off the ground could be disastrous to the industry, which could see up to 15,000 jobs lost and a devastating loss in revenue after suffering after a bad 2019 season because of poor weather.
