The Pee-Wee Eagles are back in action for another season with a boatload of new regulations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eagles Head Coach Lance Kelly says for football players they have never been cleaner.

"The kids are constantly sanitizing, the equipment is constantly sanitized and we only operate within a cohort, so we only play and participate with people within our cohort, We are fortunate we haven't had any cases or issues."

Kelly says Football Alberta and Football Calgary has done lots of work to ensure the safety of the kids and everyone involved.

"Lots of people have done a lot of work to make this happen, lots of protocols put in place this year, new changes this year, the field is a bit smaller, the refs are masked up and they are doing their thing, lots of work went into it, but it looks like we are going to be playing some football this year."

Football has always been a very social sport at any level, Kelly says having the kids back and participating is a great way to ensure they are safe during this time.

"They feel great! The kids are happy, its great to see them with smiles on their face, I really hope that people who are running athletics and taking care of any sport realize that these kids are better off with us than wandering around with nothing to do. If the kids don't play sports they will be hanging out at the local shopping center or out with their friends, they are much safer with us. We are sanitizing the equipment and making sure they are safe, the kids know they are safe with the coaches."

The Eagles have already played a game this season playing at Shouldice Park in south Calgary and will be back on the field on September 12th.
