It's game day for the High River Flyers have a special guest coming out to help kick off their season.

Coach Colton Hayes says the team is very excited to have country music star George Canyon singing the national anthem for them.

"It is a special thing to have in our community in High River," said Hayes. "I'm sure there is not too many teams in the league that are getting big country music stars to come out and sign the National Anthem for them."

The Flyers are hosting the Three Hills Thrashers who had a tough year last year.

"But I am not expecting nothing less than a good hockey game. Lots of teams rebuild and lots of teams get new players and new coaches and that is what we are going off of. You can never really take any team too lightly."

He is expecting the Flyers to get the puck in the net a few times through the game.

"We have a lot of good players up front Jakob Jefferies, Josh Fleck, Michael McTighe and Logan MacLean. These guys can put in with the best of them."

Hayes is also looking forward to seeing how some of the new players who are billeting in town do.

The puck drops at 8 p.m. at the Rec-plex.
