The High River Flyers only have one game this coming weekend but the two points up for grabs are vital in the Heritage Junior Hockey League.

The High River Flyers are sitting in second place with a record of 17 wins, 11 losses and 3 overtime points for a total of 37 points which has them tied for points with Cochrane who are in first place with 18 wins, 11 loses and 1 overtime point for 37 points.

Okotoks and Coaldale are nipping on their heels tied with 36 points each.

Coach Tyson Avery says last weekend didn't go as planned.

"We are still tied for first place but sitting second," said Avery. "This past weekend we beat Strathmore 4 to 2 then lost to Coaldale 5 to 2. Not the weekend we were looking for, but we are still happy to get two points out of it."

And with four teams jammed up at the top of the standings, every point counts right now.

"We have one game on Saturday at 4:30 we play Medicine Hat and we are looking to get two points out of that game. We will have to play hard and make sure we don't take anything for granted because of where we are in the standings, because the lowest team to play is always very tough."

Medicine Hat is sitting in sixth and last place with 21 points on the season.

"We need to keep playing hard and consistently, not taking any shifts off and not taking any games off. Not taking anybody for granted at this time of the year. We are going to playoffs and we are preaching to our guys to play consistent, use our speed, get ready for the playoffs. We need two points every time we play, that is how tight it is in our league right now."

The puck drops at 4:30 p.m. at the Rec-plex on Saturday, January 20th.
