There's only 60 minutes left on the scoreboard for local favorites in the Heritage Junior Hockey League's 2017/18 regular season.

While the Okotoks Bisons head into the final frames on a three-game win streak, the High River Flyers will try to salvage what's left of the year after losing five straight.

Last night (Sat. Feb. 3), the Bisons beat the Copperheads 4 to 1 in Coaldale while the Flyers lost to the Generals 7 to 4 in Cochrane.

The Flyers got off to a rocky start, swallowing three unanswered goals by the Generals less than 14 minutes in the first period.

They bounced back with a goal late in the frame followed by two more late in the second.

However, they could not stop the General's offence - the Flyers could only get one more on the scoreboard while the Generals dumped an additional four between the pipes before the final buzzer.

Their southern division rivals, on the other hand, had a much different evening.

The Bisons and Copperheads came out of the first period without a goal.

Neck-in-neck, they each scored one in the second and headed into the third for what should have been a very tightly contested period.

Instead, the Bisons came out of the final intermission with fury and unleashed an offensive torrent by scoring three goals in the final frame.

The Flyers' remain in fourth place in the Southern division with 37 points while the Bisons retain the top spot with 48, just 9 points behind the HJHL's leading Red Deer Vipers.

The Flyers end regular season play at home Friday Feb. 9, against the Copperheads. Puck drops at 8 p.m. at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

The Bisons finish theirs on the road against the Medicine Hat Cubs at the Murray Arena on Sunday for a 1:15 p.m. start time.
