Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw has banned mass gatherings for the Summer.

That means things like sports won't be happening until at least September 1st.

You'd think that would stop the Okotoks Dawgs season in it's tracks.

Managing Director, John Ircandia, says not yet.

"We haven't made that decision yet. She has said different things. She has said no mass gatherings or something to that effect, until the end of August and the next day she seemed to back track a little bit and say that amateur and youth and different types of activities, we're going to have to get kids playing and doing different things. We're just carefully monitoring the situation with both the politicians and with the health care people to see what we do."

Ircandia says nothing is written in stone.

"We do have governors meetings every two weeks. We have another one coming up in the next few days. So there'll be another announcement that comes out of that. But I would expect that it would be that we're now focusing our energies on talking to the medical people, talking to the political people and determining whether or not if it's likely or possible to do a, even modified, Canada Day start."

One possible problem has Saskatchewan launching their plans to re-open things starting this week, which could help teams there, while teams in Alberta remain in limbo during the COVID-19 lockdown.
