The chucks hit the track for the final show of the season starting Wednesday, August 21, at the Century Downs Casino north of Calgary.

Okotoks, Dayton Sutherland, who's coming off a big win in Rocky Mountain House over the weekend, says this is a new show, and there's no shortage of cash available for the drivers.

"Oh, yeah, this is a big show. It's great what Century Downs has done for the WPCA and chuckwagon racing as whole. You know, it kind of gives us something to run for.

Driver's will be racing for close to a quarter of a million dollars in prize money, and a new truck.

Sutherland says in the past the tour kind of felt lacklustre after the Stampede with not as much money up for grabs, whereas this show, in just it's first year, is now among the biggest on tour.

"It's probably our second or third biggest show, I suppose. I mean, it's in it's first year so there's going to be a few kinks worked out behind the scenes and stuff, with how everything's going. A lot of guys don't know the grounds here and the track and it's the first time that the committee is putting on the show."

Sutherland, who joined the WPCA Tour for the last couple of races, says he's looking to return full time next year and will head to Dewberry next week with hopes of locking up a spot in the WPCA Run-Off.

The Century Downs show has a particular format, which is different than the other shows as it's a mix of a run off, dash for cash and aggregate champion.

THE FORMAT:

The top 12 drivers in the WPCA point standings after the last tour stop prior to the Century Downs World Finals will qualify for the four day playoff round at Century Downs August 21-24.

In 2019 Rocky Mountain House (August 15th - August 18th) is the last event for drivers to earn points to qualify for the Century Downs playoff.

The 12 qualified drivers will race in the final three heats over the first four nights at Century Downs with their specific heat determined by their point standings going in.

The 12 finalists will be under a playoff point system with points awarded based on daily running times and their playoff aggregate time.

The four drivers with the most playoff points will advance to the Century Downs "Winners' Zone" Championship Dash on August 25th.

The four drivers in the Century Downs "Winners' Zone" Championship Dash will be racing for $50,000.00, a horse trailer valued at over $30,000.00, trophy buckles for both the winning driver and his two outriders and the prestige of being recognized as the inaugural Century Downs "Winners' Zone" Champion.

In addition to the championship race, every heat on Championship Sunday will be a dash for cash with a total of $60,000.00 paid out.

Over the 5 days all 36 WPCA drivers will also be competing for $125,000.00 in day monies which is awarded based on daily results.

Of the 36 WPCA drivers competing, the driver with the best aggregate time over the first four nights will be recognized as the Century Downs aggregate winner.

The driver will receive $5,000.00 and both driver and his two outriders will receive aggregate trophy buckles.
