Kurt Bensmiller hasn't done anything but win the last few years, and can add his fourth Rangeland Derby crown in the last five years to his totals.

He outran, Mike Vigen's wagon, along with Okotoks Mark Sutherland and High River's Jason Glass Sunday, July 15, to claim his second straight Stampede Chuckwagon crown.

He says the last couple of years he's started the season off strong, and just never slowed down.

"I've been either first or second at all the other four shows, and here makes the fifth show where I've been first. I don't know how it all sets up, the only difference is when you start off the Spring and you start winning, you're worried that you're peaking too early. But over the last few years, it's proved I wasn't peaking until now."

(From outside in) Jason Glass, Mark Sutherland, Chanse Vigen and 2018 Champ Kurt Bensmiller roar past the grandstand in heat nine of the Stampede's Rangeland Derby Sunday night.

Vigen, who's son Chanse was driving his wagon all week, finished second, with Sutherland and Glass finishing third and fourth.

Both Glass and Sutherland shared the Stampede's Safe Drive Award as the least penalized drivers over the first eight nights of racing.

The chucks now get a few weeks off, as they won't get back to work until Friday, August 3 at the Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede.
