For the first time since the Drumheller Dragons joined in 2003, the Alberta Junior Hockey League will welcome a new expansion team.

The Blackfalds Bulldogs are the new kids on the block in the AJHL.

The Bulldogs join the South Division and according to Head Coach, President and Owner Doug Quinn, they have their sights set on success.

"I think we are going to be very competitive from the get-go. One of the luxuries of the Alberta Juniors is that you can recruit basically across North America. We've identified some kids that we want to go after and we've been pretty successful."

Quinn says once they've got a season or two under their belts, they're eyeing being one of the league's "Top Dogs."

"With a new rink and our dressing room, training facility and all of it is going to be second to none and so I plan on being one of the top teams in the league eventually if Brooks and Okotoks are the top teams, that's who we want to compare ourselves too down the line."

Quinn says they're excited to see the team, the building and the organization start to come together.

"It becomes more real all the time as we get closer and closer to starting our first season."

The Bulldogs aren't like most other teams in the AJHL who are usually teams moving from one city or town to another, Quinn says they quite literally started from scratch.

"We had to start from zero, we had to get out and sell our story to these kids and convince them that this will be a better opportunity to play than other places"

The Bulldogs will be playing out of their brand new facility which is under construction in Blackfalds.
