Although the Okotoks Dawgs had an abrupt end to the season over the weekend, the Dawgs organization says the season as a whole was a success.

Unfortunately, the Dawgs ended the season in the first round of the WMBL playoffs with a 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Prospects Saturday, August 5.

Dawgs Promotions Director William Gardner, says the season ended far too soon for the Dawgs, but it was still a summer filled with fond memories.

"The regular season, you can't say enough about its success, we finished first place," he says. "Unbelievable support in the community, welcoming over 100,000 fans over the course of the season to seaman stadium, it was truly remarkable. We're looking back with a bit of bittersweetness, a great regular season, and just very saddened it ended so quickly in the post season."

Garnder says attendance was up 3,300 fans per game to an average of 4,100 per game in 2017.

He says the Dawgs also set a record for the most sold out games in the 2017 season.

He says he can't thank what he calls, "the greatest fans in all of baseball' enough.

"Just a tremendous increase in support, it was a beautiful summer, we had so many great days of literally perfect baseball weather, we know that was a big contribution to our attendance. We just thank the fans for their incredible support over the year."

Gardner says there were many great moments over the 2017 season, including the "Wear Pink to The Park Game," "Father's Day," "Canada Day," and of course the big comeback over Swift Current.

"I look back on the game we had against Swift Current, coming back in the ninth inning scoring 6 runs on 10 pitches all with 2 out. It was just an unbelievable fight, and evidence to how the team played throughout the regular season, you never felt they were out of the game, they were aggressive and could develop a lot of offence."

He says the Dawgs are already looking forward to growing next year, as they're in discussions about development at Seman Stadium, and player invitations have already been sent out.
