Foothills M.P. John Barlow says he's extremely disappointed in the decision to oust former Cabinet Minister, Jody Wilson-Raybould, and colleague Jane Philpott from the liberal caucus yesterday.

The exile came swiftly after the previous Attorney General released a secretly recorded phone conversation between herself and former Privy Council Clerk Michael Wernick, that outlined pressure from the P.M. and his team over the SNC-Lavalin scandal.

Barlow states that he believes that Philpott and Wilson-Raybould were only standing up for what's right and it's wrong that they got the boot for it.

"I really find that to be quite ironic that the two people in the liberal government who are probably doing the right thing, are the ones who are taking the fall for, once again, the Prime Minister who doesn't seem to have any respect for Judiciary independence and the rule of law."

While Wilson-Raybould and the Conservatives have been calling for parliament to allow the former cabinet minister to tell her story without the shackles of solicitor-client privilege in cabinet confidence, Barlow believes there is very much a double standard.

"It's no problem for Gerald Butts to table copies of text messages and notes, but for some reason it's incomprehensible that Jody Wilson-Raybould record a conversation that highlighted the pressure and the inappropriate behavior of the Prime Minister and his team."

He also claims that the Liberal Caucus never even got the chance to vote on the matter, after a meeting was originally set for 5:45 PM to debate the decision never happened.

"Moments before that meeting even started, Miss Wilson-Raybould was told that she had been expelled." Barlow adds, "The Prime Minister made that decision on his own and Caucus didn't have any say on what their fates would be."
