Have you also noticed hot air balloons up over the last couple of weekends.

I noticed 1 on Thursday Feb 1st early in the morning and then 3 of them back on Saturday Feb 10th during the afternoon.

They were quite a ways south of Co-op when I spotted them thinking I must be seeing things but nope they were real.

Event organizer Jamie Kinghorn joined us on the Morning Show on Wednesday this week to fill us in.

Yup, they were up there enjoying the nice break of sub-zero temps.

Jamie also said it's usually about 10 degrees warmer up in the air because you're going with the wind so there's no windchill.

Ahha! (insert light bulb going on)

I should've figured that one out but it's just not something I've thought about before.

Jamie also says that the Heritage Inn is the main sponsor again this year for the 6th year.

Something a bit different this year is that it won't be the Canadian National Balloon Championship but they're looking to bring in just as many balloonists as last year.

One thing they're looking at trying out this year is a 'pole grab' where they put an envelope on top of a 20 foot pole and the balloonists have to race from either 3 or 5 kilometre and the first one to get there AND get close enough to grab it wins!  Sounds nuts but I'd love to watch that!  Who wouldn't? Right?

It'll be held the last weekend of September from Wednesday Sept 26th to Sunday Sept 30th.

The 'Light Up' night is coming back too and Jamie's just waiting to confirm the location.

They still need some sponsors and volunteers.

Contact info at their website.

Till then...the countdown is on!
