It's not the season we had in mind, but it's a start.

The provincial government's addition of limited school and minor sports training to Step One of their new COVID-19 relaunch plan means kids might be able to get back on the ice sooner than expected.

Just days prior, the Okotoks Minor Hockey Association and Hockey Alberta announced the cancellation of their seasons, but both have since released statements addressing the weekend's changes.

Practice can now resume, though guidelines are in place, including allowing no more than ten participants on the ice at once, and having at least one registered coach on the ice at all times.

Hockey Alberta outlined the update and the guidelines that go along with it in an information bulletin, which can be viewed here.

The OMHA says they'll be releasing more information soon, with the update having come as a surprise.
