Two fifteen year-old High River boys beat out 72 other Athletes their age to compete in football at the Alberta Summer Games that go July 14-17 in Leduc.

Keaton Neish secured his position as wide receiver on the Big Country Badgers football team and Callum Minor will play outside linebacker and safety.

Callum says it all started with a suggestion from their Coach.

"He sent out invites to us to say come out and try out. We were both interested and then we just went and tried out and had a lot of fun and made the team."

Both young men say football is a much more friendly sport than hockey.

"It might sound a little bit weird, but football is a much more friendly sport. You go hard between the whistles and try and kill your opponent and then after the whistles every one is nice to each other. Picking each other up saying, good hit, good tackle, good game."

Callum says he's happy they made the cut given the quality of players that were trying out.

"I guess it was just a lot of hard work at the try outs, we just had to put in the best effort. It was a good group of guys and there was some athletes that got cut that were good enough that we thought would make the team, but it was a battle for some positions and I guess it's just how it worked out in the end."

The competition will feature eight geographically divided zones with current or graduating bantam football players.
