Our beloved mother “Minnie Mom” continued on her journey on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the age of 100. Mom was born on October 14, 1915 in the small farming community of Earl Grey, Saskatchewan. She is survived by her daughters: Leona (Bob) Reinson, Drina Duncan (Wayne Morrison) of Kamloops, B.C., and Marilyn (Monty) Sawka of High River, AB., grandchildren: Sherry (John) Van Kruyssen, Kim Twerdun, Mark Twerdun, Tamara Duncan, Krysta Duncan, and Matthew Twerdun, and great-grandchildren: Sara and Kate, Tyler and Curtis, Jodi and Karly, Montana, Brogan, Jaxon and Tavish and great-great-grandchildren Ryann and Luke, and Ella. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was pre-deceased by her loving husband Leo Twerdun and son Larry Twerdun, her parents Frank and Mary Flaman, and her siblings John Flaman, Mary Jensen and Leo Flaman. Mom spent her formative years on the family farm in Saskatchewan, moving to Carrot River with her family at the age of 15. From there she made her way to The Pas, Manitoba where she met Leo, fell in love and married him in 1937. After a short time in The Pas, they moved to Flin Flon where they raised their four children. Mom’s sewing expertise covered children’s clothes as well as wedding dresses. Her hands were never idle – knitting, and all sorts of crafts. During their retirement years they built their little cabin into their long dreamed about retirement home at Lake Athapap. Their love of playing cards, fishing and gathering with their many friends was a common occurrence, building many lasting friendships over the years. Following Dad’s death in 1984, Mom spent summers at the Lake House and winters in Calgary, until it became too much for her to take care of on her own. Mom lived on her own until 2010, settling in a little apartment at Beaver Dam in southwest Calgary, where she took time to write a story about her early life entitled “From the Dust Bowl to Lush Green Meadows”, of which a portion was printed in the Calgary Herald. Her children were very proud of her endeavor and cherish the memories. She spent her last years at the High River Hospital on the Long Term Care floor. Having lived a long life Mom was a gracious lady, always happy, loving and loved by all. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors for their loving care of our Mother during her time at the High River Hospital.
